Montville Boy, 16, To Be Charged As An Adult For Alleged Home Invasion

A 16-year-old Montville boy will be tried as an adult for his alleged role in a Montville home invasion on April 5, according to The Day.
Shaun Jones, 16, of 65 Kitemaug Road will face felony charges as an adult after he allegedly broke into a Montville home on April 5 with a gun and tried to steal drugs from a 21-year-old, according to The Day. He was originally slated to be tried as a juvenile, but his case was transferred to adult court because of the serious nature of the crime, according to The Day.
Jones was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, attempted fourth-degree larceny, criminal use of a weapon and first-degree threatening. He put in an initial plea of not guilty and is being held on $75,000 bond, according to court records.
Jones faces a Class A felony, home invasion, two Class B felonies, first-degree attempt to commit robbery and first-degree burglary, two Class D felonies, criminal use of a weapon and first-degree threatening, and one Class A misdemeanor, attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny. Class A felonies are punished with 10 to 25 years in jail, Class B felonies with one to 20 years in jail, Class D felonies are punished with one to five years in jail and Class A misdemeanors are punished with up to one year in jail.
Jones was arrested on April 16 after he allegedly invaded a home a 77 Lake Road, armed with a gun, with the intention of stealing drugs from a 21-year-old who lives there, according to court records. Jones allegedly entered the home with 23-year-old Zachary Spurgas, although Spurgas later told police that Jones forced him to commit the home invasion, according to court records.
Spurgas was subdued in the house by the 21-year-old’s father, the owner of the home, who used a hand sander to beat him up, according to court records. Jones allegedly fled the scene, but was arrested 11 days later, according to court records.
