Police detailed two types of scams that are making the rounds.

MONTVILLE, CT — Please be aware that there is currently a lot of different types of scams going around right now. We’re still waiting on our huge check from a Nigerian Prince that we emailed a while back! I’m sure we’ll get it one day…

The last week we’ve been contacted about two current Scam trends.

The first being a text like one of the attached photographs. The random number states something along the lines of parking fees, toll fees, or another type of fee and will provide a link. DO NOT CLICK the link. The link will download harmful programs or viruses on your phone which is used to steal your private information. Do not reply to the texts.

The second scam is a free gift like headphones or some other cool electronics. Do not use them. Throw them away. As awesome as it sounds, random people are not sending free gifts to strangers, especially when it’s from someone named “Penises Zwitg”. These gifts usually have a website or barcode which does the same as the first scam.

A huge red flag for a scam is if they ask for payment in the form of gift cards.

There is no police department, court, or jail that will call and ask for money over the phone for bail money for a friend or family member. Payment is only accepted in person at that department.

Our best advice to you is if it seems like it could be a scam, it’s probably a scam.

You can always reach out to your local departments for assistance in identifying a scam!
