On the morning of 11/24, one of our officers was traveling 30mph, the posted speed limit, on Raymond Hill Road when a deer unexpectedly ran out of a driveway.

Luckily our officer was traveling at a safe speed and was able to turn into the other lane and hit his brakes. Unfortunately, the deer continued running and ran into the side of the cruiser causing a minor dent. The deer ran off and did not appear injured, but she may have a concussion and a bruised ego.

If anyone sees this doe, she’s approximate 4 foot 8 inches tall, 125 lbs, has a shocked look on her face, and may have the words Montville Police imprinted on her, let us know because we’d like to speak to her about safely crossing a road.

Anytime you see one deer, always expect another. As you can see in the video, another deer panics and darts in front of our officer, but he was able to stop and avoid her.

This is why we talk about driving safely and cautiously. This could have ended differently for both sides. You never know what could unexpectedly dart out of a driveway, a ball, a kid, one of Santa’s Reindeer. Tis the season.

During the holidays, we tend to see a rise in the state with serious injury and fatal car accidents. We want everyone to be able to spend their holidays with the families!
