Crime Scene Photos, Videos Released In Waterbury Captivity Case

Police provided the 911 call, images and video in response to a Freedom of Information request.

WATERBURY, CT — Police have released photographs and videos from a house where a woman is accused of holding her stepson captive for two decades.

Police took the photos at 2 Blake St. after a Feb. 17 fire. Officials also released body camera footage from that night and audio of the 911 call.

According to police, a 32-year-old man, who weighed just 68 pounds, told them he purposely set the house on fire because he wanted his freedom. The man told police his stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, 56, had been holding him captive in the house since he was about 11 years old.

The newly-released photographs show fire damage inside the home. Photos show an exterior slide lock and latch which police say was used to keep the man in a small room, one which police have described as “worse than the conditions of a jail cell.” A video shows the man being carried out of the house by a firefighter.

Sullivan has entered a “not guilty” plea to the charges against her, which include first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful restraint, cruelty to persons and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Sullivan’s defense attorney, Ioannis Kaloidis of Waterbury, has said she maintains her innocence. Sullivan is next due in court on April 22.
