Fugitive Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Minor Extradited From Georgia: Naugatuck PD

NAUGATUCK, CT — A man accused of sexually assaulting a minor and wanted by Naugatuck police was extradited from Georgia and brought back to Connecticut on an arrest warrant Thursday, according to police.

In a news release, police said Jamel Young, a 53-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl while staying in Naugatuck, was charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree attempted sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Young was held on a $750,000 bond and was arraigned in court Thursday morning in Waterbury, according to police.

In an earlier release, police said they received information on July 15 that Young was at a home in Brunswick, Ga.

An arrest warrant issued for Young charged him with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree attempted sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

The arrest warrant included nationwide extradition and a $750,000 court-set bond, according to police.

"We would like to thank the Brunswick Police Department and the FBI New Haven for their assistance in locating and arresting Young," police said in a July news release.
