Mass Layoffs Announced At Waterbury Based Company
The company said it abruptly lost one of its largest contracts, which led to the mass layoffs.
WATERBURY, CT — A mass layoff took place at the Feeney Brothers' facility at 137 East Aurora St. on April 15 after Eversource terminated its contract with the company, officials said.
On April 9, Eversource informed Feeney Brothers Excavating LLC that they had terminated its contract immediately, the company reported to state officials. Eversource was one of the company's largest clients.
The move resulted in a "mass layoff" at the Feeney Brothers' Waterbury facility on April 15, wrote Bryan Grassing, of Feeney Brothers.

"Feeney Brothers was unable to provide more notice of this action because these circumstances were not reasonably foreseeable as Feeney Brothers understood Eversource would continue working with it in some capacity," Grassing wrote.
The company said this "mass layoff is expected to be permanent."

A total of 37 jobs will be eliminated including: drivers, 5, forearm, 8, laborers, 15, operators, 6, and locator, 3. All layoffs will be administered by July 31.
An Eversource spokesperson told Hearst Connecticut that the utility "made a business decision to move on..." (Read more at Hearst CT here).
