More Mass Layoffs At Waterbury Company Following Sudden Loss Of Contract
The company announced more mass layoffs for the third time in less than two months at its Connecticut business.
WATERBURY, CT — As a result of unexpectedly losing its contract with Eversource, Feeney Brothers Excavation announced more mass layoffs for the third time in less than two months.
In mid-April, the Dorchester, Massachusetts-based company submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice to the state Department of Labor that it had to cut 37 positions at its 137 East Aurora St. facility.
On May, an additional nine employees were laid off, bringing the total number of staffing cuts there to 46. And now in a new notice, the company has announced the need to terminate an additional six employees.

The utility construction company indicated it needed to make the cuts after it lost its contract with Eversource, which was one of its largest.
"Feeney Brothers was unable to provide more notice of this action because these circumstances were not reasonably foreseeable as Feeney Brothers understood Eversource would continue working with it in some capacity," the company wrote back in April.
