Motorist Crashes Into Waterbury IHOP, Flees Scene: Police

Police are seeking tips on the driver's identity, according to police.

WATERBURY, CT — A motorist crashed into an IHOP restaurant Thursday morning and then fled the scene, according to police.

Lt. Ryan Bessette said the hit-and-run accident happened around 8:51 a.m. at the 495 Union St. business.

A silver Ford Escape crashed into the exterior wall of the IHOP building, according to Bessette.

No one was injured.

The outside of the building sustained moderate damage. Waterbury Building Inspectors evaluated the building and determined it is safe for use, police said.

Police as of Thursday evening were still searching for the motorist, and the accident remains under investigation.
