NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck man was arrested in connection to a garage fire caused by illegal fireworks that broke out in town earlier this year, according to police.

In a news release, police said a structure fire was reported June 14 behind a Field Street home.

When officers and firefighters arrived in the area, they found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames and the fire was starting to spread to the home, according to police.

After further investigation in coordination with the fire marshal's office, police determined the blaze started as a result of illegal aerial fireworks being set off during a party at a neighboring property, police said.

According to police, the uncontrolled nature of the fireworks led to the garage catching on fire and resulted in "extensive damage and a total loss of the structure."

No injuries were reported, police said.

Police identified Samol Yann-E, 42, of Naugatuck, as the person who set off the fireworks.

A warrant was issued for Yann-E's arrest on Aug, 20, after which he turned himself in to the Naugatuck Police Department. He was charged with reckless burning, second-degree breach of peace and illegal sale, use, and possession of fireworks prohibited.

He was released on a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court earlier this month, according to police.
