Naugatuck Police: New London Man Accused of Attacking Friend With Box Cutter

The accused was held on a $100,000 surety bond after he was arrested on Sunday at around 3:30 a.m.

Naugatuck police said they arrested James Kelly, 37, of New London, in Naugatuck on Sunday at around 3:30 a.m. for an active arrest warrant from an assault that occurred on Friday, May 22 at around 11:30 p.m. on North Main Street.

Police say Kelly was in the victim’s car when an argument occurred, according to the police report. During the argument, Kelly refused to get out of the car and started a physical altercation, police said.

He is accused of cutting the victim with a box cutter and causing lacerations to the victim’s face, chest and hands, police said.

Kelly is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, police said.

He was held on a $100,000 surety bond and was scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on Tuesday, May 26, police said.
