Naugatuck Rep Lauds Women's Caucus Session Progress

The co-chairs of the women's caucus are pleased with the groups support of legislation on women's and children's issues.

State Representatives Kim Rose (D-Milford) and Rosa C. Rebimbas (R-Naugatuck) co-chairs of the legislature’s Women’s Caucus lauded the group’s progress in supporting legislation covering a number of areas important to women and their families.

The co-chairs have worked closely with their caucus to identify priorities that will gather bipartisan support to ensure passage of the measures by the end of the 2016 Legislative Session on May 4.

“I am pleased with the work that our group has been able to achieve this session,” Rep. Rose said. “We will continue to do our part in advancing our priorities and working together to continue to make a difference.”

“I continue to be encouraged and impressed with the bipartisan commitment members of the Women’s Caucus make on behalf of women across our state, and I know we will continue to improve Connecticut for women and their families,” Rep. Rebimbas said. “The group’s leadership on major issues, including on behalf of women veterans, is making a tremendous difference and I remain dedicated to finding bipartisan support for women’s initiatives well into the future.”

The co-chairs have worked closely with the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW), to identify priorities that will gather bipartisan support to ensure passage of the measures by the end of the 2016 Legislative Session on May 4.

The group agreed to sponsor the following measures:

· H.B. 5365, An Act Concerning Legal Protections For Persons Entering Cars To Render Emergency Assistance To Children, to provide legal protections to a person who enters the vehicle of another to rescue a child who is reasonably believed to be in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.

· S.B. 346 An Act Concerning Penalties For Evasion Of Responsibility By An Operator Of A Motor Vehicle In The Case Of Injury Or Damage

· S.B. 205 An Act Concerning Women Veterans, a measure that will continue building awareness of women veterans' issues and address their unique needs by expanding opportunities for outreach and support by the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

· H.B. 5466 An Act Concerning Criminal History Records Checks For Household Members Of A Family Child Care Home And Providing Child Care For Assistance Recipients Enrolled In Approved Higher Education Programs, that will require background checks and notice of convictions for any person who is a household member in a family child care home or group child care home.

Rep. Rose is serving her third term at the state legislature and Rep. Rebimbas who was elected in a special election in 2009, is serving her 4th term.
