Report: Naugatuck Town and School Budget Reduced By Almost $224K

The proposed budget has some residents upset as they don't want taxes to increase.

Naugatuck officials reduced the original proposed town and school budget on Thursday by $223,995, capping the spending plan at $115.7 million, according to the Republican-American and reporter Paul Singley.

This budget is $2.8 million, or 2.5 percent, higher than Naugatuck’s current spending plan, which would increase the tax rate from 44.27 mills to 45.99 mills, a 3.8 percent increase, the Rep-Am reported.

Putting these numbers into perspective, a $170 raise in real estate taxes will be seen if this budget is put into place, according to Rep-Am. A petition organized by resident Matt Katra is making rounds for signatures to try and send the plan to referendum.
