Residents must sign a form indicating that the debris is related to the August 18th storm. This will help with our FEMA claim.
All normal transfer station rules apply, including:
No hazardous waste
No out of town waste.
Borough residents are reminded to be diligent in hiring licensed contractors for home renovation. State law requires that work be defined in a signed contract. Make sure you’re not being charged transfer station fees by contractors.
Questions should be directed to the Department of Public Works at 203-720-7071.
Private and Business Claims
The Borough is pursuing FEMA reimbursement for all Borough storm damage and will also advocate for claims to private property of residents and businesses. Town staff is collecting information at this time. Homeowners and business should diligently collect documentation including photographs of all damage and supply copies to Borough officials.
In general, FEMA claims must be for major damage that is not covered by insurance. For example, replacing a furnace is major and water in the basement may not be major.
In addition, homeowners and businesses should file a report of damages by utilizing this link: https://crisistrack.juvare.com/public/CTDEMHS/request.html.
This is not a claim for reimbursement. This is a report of damage which is the first step in the FEMA process.
There is no guarantee of FEMA reimbursement. The town, our federal delegation in Washington D.C., and our state delegation in Hartford will all work together to try and achieve positive results.
Homeowners and businesses should concurrently pursue their individual or business claims on line. More detailed information from FEMA is forthcoming.
Town Roads
All Town roads with the exception of Hunters Mountain Road are in full operation. A rebuild of a large portion of Hunters Mountain Road commenced today and should be completed next week.
The Borough is documenting all related costs and expenses for our FEMA claim.
