Waterbury Cops Issue Warning After Facebook Marketplace Robberies
The victims were attempting to complete electronics sales when they were robbed, according to police.
WATERBURY, CT — Police are warning the public after a series of robberies this month against victims who had been selling electronics through Facebook Marketplace.
The local robberies happened on May 9, 12 and 17, according to police.
Each victim was lured to the Fiske Street area after they had arranged to sell electronics, including an iPad, a gaming laptop, and an iPhone, police said, in an announcement.

The sellers were asked to factory reset the items and provide video proof of the reset prior to each meeting. When the victims arrived at the agreed upon location, an individual either threatened or displayed a firearm and robbed them.
None of the victims were harmed, according to police.

Police are urging residents to take precautions to ensure their safety when they use online platforms to buy or sell items.
Many police departments have designated safe exchange zones at their headquarters where buyers and sellers can meet. Police advise against meeting at unfamiliar or secluded locations. It is best to bring a friend or family member with you. Cancel a meeting if anything appears suspicious, police advised.
