Police said a Naugatuck woman is accused of leaving a 1-month-old baby and a child, 8, locked inside a hot car while she was inside a store.

NAUGATUCK, CT β A Naugatuck woman accused of leaving a 1-month-old baby and an 8-year-old child locked inside a hot car while she was inside a store was arrested Wednesday, according to police.
In a news release posted to Facebook, police said officers were called to a Walmart store in town that day after an infant and a child were found locked inside a hot car.
Witnesses said the car's alarm was going off because the 8-year-old was trying to get out of the car, police said.

Talita Sonia De Carvalho Silva, 30, of Naugatuck, the mother of the two children, walked out of the store and over to the car the children were in, according to police.
Silva was arrested and charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor, two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of leaving a child under 12 unsupervised in a vehicle.
She was released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court next month, according to police.
"This arrest highlights the importance of never leaving children in a hot car," police said in a news release. "Even on a mild day, a car's interior can reach deadly temperatures in minutes. A child's body heats up 3-5 times faster than an adult's and heatstroke can happen quickly."
