In Memoriam: Angela V. Lyons

The New Canaan resident passed away Jan. 28 at the age of 80.

Angela Vigilante Lyons, 80, of New Canaan, died peacefully at the Waveny Care Center on January 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Norwalk on May 23, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Grace Piccirillo Vigilante.

Angela lived in Norwalk for most of her life, later moving to New Canaan. She attended St. Joseph School and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was a retired bookkeeper for various local companies and a Justice of the Peace. A member of the Norwalk Evening Women’s Club, the Young Republicans, and the Sons of Italy, she was involved in many organizations. Angela’s greatest joy was time and celebrations spent with her family and close friends.

She is survived by her former husband Daniel James Lyons Sr. of Norwalk, along with their four children: daughter Veronica Lyons Ready and husband Scott of New Canaan, son Darren Lyons of New Canaan, son Jim Sr. and wife Lori Jakob Lyons of Norwalk, son Dan Lyons Jr. of Norwalk and former wife Renee O’Driscoll of Westport.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Erica Lyons DePalma and husband Mike, Jim Lyons, Jr. and wife Kelly Gatto Lyons, Elyse Lyons, Shane Ready, Patrick Lyons, Tori Ready, and Marlee Ready; Great-grandchildren: Jameson and Brooklyn DePalma, and Kelsey Lyons.

In addition, she leaves behind her brother Frank Vigilante and wife Jane of Stamford, and sister Patricia Vigilante Pirrone and husband Terry of Norwalk and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk, on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 10 AM with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Angela’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk, on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Angela’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alz.org/CT.
