New Canaan: How Much Would You Pay for a Stamp?

January's one-cent hike in stamp prices—from 45-cents to 46-cents—is unlikely to drain the wallet. But at what point would you bid farewell to the old-fashioned Thank You note and turn to email, instead?

For Gloriana Perez—a Norwalk resident who works in New Canaan—$1.50 would be the limit.

"[But] stamp prices are high already," Perez said Monday, toting a box outside of the New Canaan post office on Pine Street. "Hopefully it will stay where it is for a while."

Wendy Brainard, a New Canaan resident, said more expensive stamps probably wouldn't deter her from sending snail mail. But it's not an issue she'll have to deal with, price hikes or not.

"I have too many Forever Stamps," she said. Forever stamps can be purchased for 45-cents until Jan. 27, and are not affected by later pricing changes.

"I wish they would raise the price in chunks, rather than one-or-two cents at a time," Brainard added.

The one-cent increase will go into effect Jan. 27 for all one-ounce letters. Postcard stamps will also see a bump, from 32-cents to 33-cents.
