Police: Mother Arrested When Son Hosts Teen Party with Alcohol, Pot

New Canaan police said the woman said only her son was home, then they found over 25 teens partying there.

When New Canaan police knocked on the door of a home on Ludlowe Road, the mother of a town teenager at first said her boy wasn’t home, police said.

Police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

In anonymous tip at 9:34 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, police were told that a teenage party with alcohol was taking place on Ludlow Road. That led police to visit the home and knock on the door.

The woman, Molly Molano, first said only her son was home with her. When police told her about the tip, she said he may have had five friends over. Police could smell alcohol and came in the house. They could hear noises coming up from the basement, so they went down to check.

In the basement, police saw open beer bottles — along with a ripped screen for an outside door, and outside, teens running off. Police told them to stop and come back. A good number did, but not all, and police eventually counted 25 teenagers, each of whom needed a ride home.

Each teenager was detained until he or she had a ride home with a responsible adult. Some parents hadn’t yet been notified as of Monday morning that their teen was at the party, but that phone call from police is coming. The identified teenagers at the party were seven 15-year-old boys, nine 16 year-old boys, seven 16-year-old girls and two 17-year-old girls. Police did not charge the children.

In the basement, police also found a small amount of marijuana, a smoking pipe with traces of marijuana on it and a grinder used for marijuana. No one admitted to police that the marijuana or paraphernalia was his or hers.

Molano, 54, of 68 Ludlowe Rd., was arrested on charges of risk of injury to a minor (a felony), failing to halt possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia (since no one owned up to having the marijuana, it was determined to be the householder’s responsibility). She posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear March 18 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
