At Elm Street Books at 35 Elm Street in New Canaan, Pam McFeely showed off the best selling section, made up from a list of the hottest items in independent bookstores across the country.
"The list updates every week," McFeely said. "It's not the New York Times best sellers list, it's not what people are buying on airports."
McFeely said the national Indy list is somewhat representative of wht New Canaanites are checking out.
"Beautiful Ruins," "The Orphan Master's Son," "Where'd You Go, Bernadette," and "The Light Between Oceans," are the hottest fiction titles out, she said, though gobs of Gatsby have been selling in connection to the recent theatrical release.
Additionally, McFeely said "Proof of Heaven" and Gwyneth Paltrow's cookbook "It's All Good" are the top non-fiction titles. Paltrow's title was tied to Mother's Day sales, McFeely said.
"With Father's Day coming up, I'm sure something will jump out. We're just not sure what it will be yet," she said.
