‘Suspicious Death’ Investigated In New Haven: Police
A man who was initially reported as unconscious at a motel was found with an apparent puncture wound and later pronounced dead, police said.
NEW HAVEN, CT — A “suspicious” death is being investigated in New Haven, according to police.
Police responded around 10:35 p.m. on Jan. 7 to Yale-New Haven Hospital on the report of a walk-in gunshot victim.
“Officers determined that the male had been transported by ambulance from a motel on Pond Lily where he had initially been reported as unconscious,” police wrote in a news release. “While being treated at the hospital, staff located an apparent puncture wound on his body, the cause of which has not been determined.”

Police said the man was later pronounced dead.
An autopsy is planned to determine the cause and manner of death, according to police.

In an update, police said the wound was not a gunshot and did not cause the death.
"No other trauma was found," police wrote. "This has not been ruled a homicide. Cause/manner of death are pending until the toxicology report is completed."
