Charity Basketball Game To Honor Slain Newington Police Officer
Friday, April 4, is the 20th and final McDermott Basketball Classic at Newington High School to raise money for a scholarship in her honor.
NEWINGTON, CT — Local police and school staffers will gather Saturday for some basketball one last time to raise money for a scholarship in the memory of a slain Newington police officer from West Hartford.
Friday, April 4, is the 20th and final McDermott Basketball Classic held in memory of Newington Police Officer Ciara McDermott.
It will take place in the Newington High School Gymnasium, 605 Willard Ave., Newington.

A scholarship has been created in her memory for NHS students, with the McDermott Basketball Classic held as a fundraiser for the scholarship.
McDermott was 30 when she was tragically slain at her West Hartford home as part of a murder-suicide that involved a Connecticut State Trooper and her former boyfriend back in 2005.

Friday's basketball game is at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets at the door will be $7. Tickets purchased at the Newington Police Department, 300 Garfield St., Newington, in advance will be $5. Tickets can be purchased via dispatchers on duty.
