Run/Walk To Benefit Family Of Late 12-Year-Old In Newington

Two HS students are behind the 'Run for Regan' Sept. 22, a benefit walking/running event for the family of Regan Martins, who died Aug. 9.

NEWINGTON, CT — Two local high school students are organizing a special walk/run event to benefit the family of a beloved 12-year-old Newington girl who died earlier this month.

Regan Martins, a student at Martin Kellogg Middle School, died on Friday, Aug. 9, prompting a moving community response in which residents and local police and firefighters displayed pink lights outside in her honor.

Now, two Newington High School students are organizing the "Run for Regan" event at the NHS track on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 10 a.m.

Participants can run, walk, skip, hop, etc., according to an event flyer, and they're being asked to donate $5 or more, with proceeds benefitting the Martins family.

The event will feature music by "DJ Kirk."

"Regan was a very fun, caring, smart, kind, loving girl who loved to sing and dance," reads teh event flyer. "She loved listening to Taylor Swift, doing theater and chorus at school."

Earlier this week, the Newington Police Department promoted the event on its social media pages.

"In light of a recent tragedy, the community is coming together to help a family who have lost a member," wrote the NPD. "Please help spread the word and we hope to see you there."
