Suspect In Newington Motel Stabbing Arrested: Police

Newington police said they arrested a man who is accused of breaking into a motel room, stabbing a man and throwing an object at a woman.

NEWINGTON, CT — Newington Police have arrested a man who is accused of forcing his way into a Newington motel room and attacking its occupants early Monday morning.

Police responded to a report of a stabbing at the Hi View Motel (2273 Berlin Tpke.) shortly after 3 a.m. Monday. There, they found a man with multiple stab wounds and a woman with a head injury, police said.

On Monday night, police from Newington and Plainville arrested Roberth Rodriguez, 36, of Berlin after obtaining a warrant for his arrest in connection with the attack.

Rodriguez is accused of forcing his way into a motel room, police said. He is charged with throwing an object at a woman — which caused an injury to her head — then stabbing a man multiple times before fleeing on foot, police said.

Rodriguez was charged with home invasion, first-degree assault, unlawful restraint, and second-degree assault. He was held on a court-set $550,000 bail and will be presented in New Britain court today, police said.

Police said Rodriguez was known to the victims, both of whom were transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment following the incident.
