Suspects Swipe Smokes In Newington Robbery: Police

The Newington PD calls the incident at a local gas station Wednesday night a 'strong-arm' robbery.

NEWINGTON, CT — Local police are investigating a convenience store robbery Wednesday night in which the weapons used were, simply, their arms.

The Newington Police Department called the incident a "strong-arm" robbery and it took place at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Phillips 66 gas station at 129 Willard Road, Newington.

According to the NPD, two male suspects were known to the clerk for previously having made large cigarette purchases with what was suspected to be fraudulent credit card transactions.

The suspects returned to the store Wednesday night and "took several cartons of cigarettes by force" before fleeing the scene, police said.

Police said the clerk was struck in the face with a fist, but declined medical attention.

No weapons were displayed or inferred and the case remains under investigation, police said.
