Upscale Burger Eatery To Open In Newington

NEWINGTON, CT — A new upscale, fast-casual burger eatery is opening in Newington this week, with a statewide effort to combat hunger expected to be a key beneficiary.

According to Connecticut Foodshare, proceeds from the Newington Shake Shack's opening on Thursday, April 25, will benefit the statewide nonprofit, which is a food bank that distributes food to the needy throughout Connecticut.

For every sandwich sold at the New York-based chain's opening Thursday, $1 will be donated to Connecticut Foodshare, which is based in Wallingford.

This supports the organization's mission to combat food insecurity and Shake Shack's "Stand for Something Good" initiative for community service, according to Foodshare.

Newington's Shake Shack is located at 3329 Berlin Turnpike, part of a massive development project announced in 2022 that also includes several other new restaurants and retail operations.

This will be the seventh Shake Shack in Connecticut, with another planned nearby in Avon.

So far, Shake Shack has fast-casual burger/fries/chicken eateries in Danbury, Darien, South Windsor (Evergreen Walk), New Haven, West Hartford, and Westport.
