A Boo-tiful Day At The Library, A Landmark Achievement, And Getting Fresh in New London

Five things to know in New London, Tuesday, October 15, 2013.

1. What's the Weather: This morning may start out cloudy but the day should be mostly sunny with a high temperature of 69 degrees and an overnight low of 52 degrees, according to weather.com. More clouds will roll in again this evening, bringing a 20 percent chance of rain. 

2. It's A Boo-tiful Tuesday at The Library: Every Tuesday through October, the Public Library of New London will be reading "not too scary" stories of ghosts and witches and things that go bump in the night to kids from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The program is free and requires no advance registration.

3. Meetings: The Library Board of Trustees meets today at 4:00 p.m. at New London Public Library.  

4. Fresh funding sources for local nutrition: FRESH New London was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from Newman's Own Foundation. The funding is part of the foundation’s two-year, $7 million commitment to innovative programs that are helping advance nutrition awareness, education, and fresh food access.

5. A Landmark Venture: If you've ever wanted to know more about some of the landmarks and history of the city, you can now find a guided tour of New London online. New London Landmark’s interactive guidebook, “New London, Connecticut: Trails & Tales,” offers two trails: The Green Tour, which takes you from Bank Street to Fort Trumbull; and The Blue Tour, from State Street to Williams Park. Along the way, the guide offers information about the history, architecture, and notable folk that put New London on the map. You'll find it all online at www.newlondonlandmarks.org.
