Blaze Rips Through New London Garage, Destroying 2 Vehicles

A fire significantly damaged a garage Saturday evening in New London, fire officials said.

NEW LONDON, CT — A fire caused significant damage to a garage and destroyed two vehicles in New London on Saturday evening, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were dispatched to 71 Summer St. at 5:10 p.m. A blaze had broken out at a single-story, three-bay detached garage.

Crews arrived to find the garage well-involved in the fire with two vehicles inside.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze and were able to extinguish it within 10 minutes. The fire was contained to the garage, preventing the spread of the blaze to any nearby structures.

No injuries were reported.

The single-alarm response included all New London Fire Department companies. Mutual aid and coverage were provided by the East Lyme Fire Department, Groton City Fire Department, Waterford Fire Department, and Sub Base Fire Department. Ambulance coverage was provided by Groton and Waterford, with a paramedic from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

The New London Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
