City Of New London Earns Statewide Award

NEW LONDON, CT — The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities has announced the recipients of the 2025 Municipal Excellence Awards. One of the winners was the City of New London.

The awards "celebrate groundbreaking projects and individuals whose work has profoundly enhanced resident well-being, strengthened partnerships, and fostered meaningful community engagement," according to a statement.

The New London Community Recreation Center won in the 20,000 to 40,000 population category.

The center opened in June and "stands as a transformative investment in the city’s physical, mental, and social health," according to the statement.

"Under the leadership of Economic Development and Planning Director Felix J. Reyes, the NLCRC has quickly become a cornerstone of community life. The facility has expanded and improved services, strengthened resident engagement, achieved notable cost savings, and created a more connected, healthy future for New London families."

Accepting the award on behalf of the City of New London were Felix Reyes, Director of Development & Planning, and Josh Posey, Director of Recreation.
