Convicted Felon Faces Gun Charges In New London, Police Say

A man was charged with several crimes following a traffic stop last week.

NEW LONDON, CT — A convicted felon is facing several gun charges in New London, according to police.

Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle Thursday at 6:02 p.m. in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Garfield Avenue.

During the stop, police said they found a loaded gun with three loaded magazines in the vehicle.

The driver, Edwin Gonzales Velazquez, 44, of New London, was taken into custody. Gonzales Velazquez is a convicted felon, according to police.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, and failure to carry insurance.

He was held on $150,000 and was scheduled to appear in Friday.

The incident remains under investigation.
