Daily Five: Budget Work, The Orphanage, Sports Roundup

1. Cooler temperatures continue, with a partly cloudy day and high temperature of 52 degrees. The overnight low falls to 40 degrees. Sunrise is 5:58 a.m., sunset is 7:37 p.m.

2. The Finance Committee continues its deliberations on New London’s budget for the 2014 fiscal year. This starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

3. Monday concerts are fairly rare, but you can catch one tonight at 300 State Street. Use the rear stairway to access “The Orphanage” and see the heavy metal set by KYOTY, Vultures of Cult, Sea of Bones, and Snow Orphan. It’s a 21+ show, and donations are welcome.

5. A couple of big anniversaries for the Bahá'í Faith today. The religion was founded in Persia on this day in 1863. One hundred years later, it established the Universal House of Justice as its governing authority.
