Family Files Lawsuit Against New London, Police, Hospital
Lashano Gilbert died in police custody in 2014. His family is now suing the city of New London, police and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.

In 2014, a 31-year-old man named Lashano Gilbert died while in custody of the New London Police Department.
According to The Day, the Gilbert family filed a federal civil lawsuit against the city of New London, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and the New London Police Department, for $54 million. The family feels Gilbert’s death was preventable.
Gilbert was in a holding cell in October 2014. He died on Saturday, Oct. 4, after reportedly being Tased multiple times over a less than eight hour period, according to WFSB.

The lawsuit alleges that New London Police officers used excessive force and hospital staff did not conduct necessary tests on Gilbert.
