Fill The Spot: 123 Pequot Ave.

I might be so bold as to have a suggestion for what could be a good fit for 123 Pequot Avenue: another cafe making good use of the upper deck.

After all, it was the Upper Deck Cafe when I moved to New London. I was surprised to see the name of the restaurant change to the Riverview Cafe in more recent months, and then to hear that the place had closed up. Indeed, though the food offerings remain up in one window, the "Closed" sign in the door has not budged with the onset of the summer season.

In first experience at the Upper Deck Cafe, I had to wonder why I was the only one utilizing the namesake dining area on a beautiful sunny morning. As I was eating my meal while looking out over the nearby marina, I also had to wonder if anyone could finish one of the cafe's morning meals. I got through the hash browns, but wasn't quite able to polish off the four egg omelet or pancake (for sides, you got the unusual choice between toast and a pancake).

The site hasn't always been an eatery, however. It was also once an antique shop known as The Ferry Slip.
