Man Calls Bomb Threat Into New London Hospital: Police

Unrelated to a suspicious death that occurred at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, a man allegedly called the hospital with a bomb threat.

On Tuesday, May 3, at approximately 3:38 p.m., New London Police and Fire Personnel were dispatched to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital after hospital personnel reported that they had received a bomb threat-type call phoned into their system.

The call was unrelated to a suspicious death at L + M Hospital that is under investigation.

Investigative information was provided to police personnel from the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Security Department. The call was traced back to the owner of the listed number, along with his address and vehicle make.

"Police made contact with the individual at his residence and determined that he had in fact placed the call to the hospital and that there were no explosives planted in or near the hospital," New London Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in a press release.

Aleksey Kuperman, 51, of 177 Nautilus Drive, Apt #28, New London, was charged with the following:

  • Breach of Peace
  • Threatening in the First Degree

Kuperman was being held in lieu of a $2,500 cash/surety bond. No injuries were reported during the incident, Reichard said.
