Mystic Irish 5K Road Race Taking Place March 19

The certified race follows a flat and fast route along the Mystic River. Runners are encouraged to wear green and have fun with the theme.

Kick off a weekend of Irish themed fun in Downtown Mystic with the second annual Mystic Irish 5K Road Race on Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. The certified 5K race begins and ends on Pearl Street and follows a flat and fast route along the Mystic River. Runners are encouraged to wear their best green running gear and have fun with the St. Patrick’s Day theme.

At least 400 runners are expected to participate in the race, an increase from 272 in the inaugural race in 2015. The race is part of a weekend of Irish festivities in Mystic. Runners also have the opportunity to march in the 13th annual Mystic Irish Parade the following day.

Discounted registration is available for $25 before March 17 online or in person at the Groton Parks and Recreation office at 27 Spicer Ave., Groton. Race day registration is $30 and begins at 8:30 a.m. at the registration tent located in the parking lot of St. Mark’s Church, 15 Pearl St. A portion of each registration benefits the Mystic Irish Parade Foundation.

After the race, participants are invited to the Harp & Hound pub on Pearl St. to celebrate and for the presentation of awards. Runners will receive 15% off food purchases with their race bib.

The event is presented by Thames Valley Communications and generously sponsored by STIHL, The Whalers Inn, The Inn at Mystic, Mystic Schooners, Heavy Hitters, Speed Laces, Kelley’s Pace, and Hall Communications.
