New London Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heat Wave
The city is opening cooling centers as the state enters a heat wave in the coming days.
NEW LONDON, CT — The city is opening a cooling center for those in need at the library. Temperatures are forecasted to be unusually high, with extreme heat and humidity levels for the next few days.
The city is working in partnership with the New London Public Library at 63 Huntington St. The cooling center will be in Adult Reading Room and in operation during the hours of the library, which are 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Senior Citizen’s Center at 10 Brainard Street will also be available as a cooling center Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If it becomes necessary, the city would consider expanding those hours during the weekend.

For additional area cooling centers, the public can call 211.
City First Responders, New London Police, and Fire Departments will closely monitor the weather conditions while looking for those in heat-related distress.
