Popular New London Restaurant Owner Dies At 63

George Gianakos, an owner of Mr. G's Restaurant, was remembered fondly by regulars.

NEW LONDON, CT — The popular owner of Mr. G's Restaurant in New London died Wednesday of a heart attack, The New London Day reported. George Gianakos was 63.

Gianakos ran the restaurant along with his brother and more recently his nephew for 40 out of the 55 years it has been open.

His parents, Louis and Chrysula, opened the eatery in 1966, after closing the New Willow Restaurant at 24 Bank St., according to The New London Day.

Mr. G's announced on Facebook that the restaurant will be closed until further notice.

Fans of the restaurant posted their memories of Gianakos in the comments. One poster wrote that he was "such a hard-working nice guy who will be leaving a huge void in our community."
