Things to know in New London for August 8

1. After the usual July break, the Board of Education returns to action tonight with a 7 p.m. workshop at the Science and Technology Magnet High School. The meeting's agenda includes the proposed leadership and public service magnet school theme for grades six through 12, a number of grants, and appointments for the magnet school's officer, Winthrop School dean, and supervisor of professional development and career management.
2. Thursday marks a regular poetry night at Bean and Leaf. Visit the coffee shop at 8 p.m. to hear some verses or share your own.
