Your Take: What Should Be Done With The New London Post Office?

The proposed future of the United States Post Office in New London will be the topic of discussion at a special City Council meeting held tonight.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall. The post office was built in the 1930s after it was determined that the one at the corner of State Street and Union Street was inadequate. The building is also notable for the murals that line the walls, commissioned as part of the New Deal initiative.

Today, the postal service in general has fallen on hard times due to declining use of "snail mail." Post offices around the country have shut down, and the New London post office building is now being considered for sale. This would allow the service to revert to a smaller customer service center, with delivery services to be consolidated in Waterford.

What would you like to see for the future of both the postal services and post office building in New London? Let us know in the comments.
