• Newtown Selectmen Approve Open Space Deed for 6 Commerce Road After Divided Vote (patch.com) — Newtown’s Board of Selectmen has voted 2–1 to accept new state-approved deed restrictions that lock 6 Commerce Road into open space or recreation use, ending decades of debate over potential development. Residents and conservation groups largely backed preservation, while a few urged keeping economic options open. Selectmen also approved several small budget transfers and appropriations affecting senior services, legal costs, and the assessor’s office.

The company’s founder has now agreed to repay $50,000 of more than $277,000 in tax breaks after employment promises tied to Nassau County incentives were not met, and county officials are still pursuing the remaining balance.
