2016 Rail Fare Hikes for Metro-North

In case you missed it — The increases took effect New Year's Day.

In case you’re still stuck in 2015 mode, here’s a reminder for commuters who use Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line.

In case you missed it, fare increases went into effect New Year’s Day. So you will want to make sure you have little more cash in your wallet before you board the train this week.

A Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) fare increase of 1% went into effect on the Connecticut portion of the New Haven Line on Jan. 1.This was the fifth of seven consecutive annual increases requested by CTDOT to help finance the new M8 cars, according to the MTA.

The increase affects ticket prices for travel between Connecticut and New York stations, including to Grand Central Station, and between stations within Connecticut, the MTA said in an announcement.

Some fares didn’t change due to rounding and the small percentage of the increase.The fare increase don’t affect travel to or from stations within New York State.
