Museum Director of Dudley Farm Museum to host Historic Lecture

(NORTH BRANFORD, CT)- On Wednesday, March 9 at Branford High School, Shoreline Adult Education and the Dudley Farm Museum will partner to host a lecture on local history. "Weathering the Storm: Stories of the Great Blizzard of 1888" will be given by Beth Payne, the Museum Director at The Dudley Farm Museum in North Guilford.

ABOUT THE TALK: On March 10 temperatures in the northeast hovered in the mid-50's. Sunday, March 11, 1888 was an unseasonably warm day. But by nightfall, snow began to fall, and by Monday night 50 inches of the white stuff covered parts of the state, leaving families isolated in a time when few had electricity or indoor plumbing. The "Great White Hurricane" marooned trains, stranded delivery men, and laid up coal wagons. These are some of their stories.
