North Branford Police Host 'Fraud, Scam' Training In New Building

Police hosted a multi-agency training on bank fraud and elderly exploitation among others, as NBPD has seen "uptick in fraud/scam cases."

NORTH BRANFORD, CT — There's been lots of activity at the new North Branford police headquarters. The recently unveiled police services building has been the site of timely law enforcement trainings.

Police said that a large multi-agency training course held Tuesday in its new facility was focused on Bank Fraud & Elderly Exploitation Investigations. The class was taught by retired Connecticut State Police trooper Matthew Gunsalus, who serves as Vice President of Security and Investigations for Liberty Bank.

A second course, Cryptocurrency Investigations, was taught by Connecticut State Police detectives Michael Grabowski and Matt Hogan.

"We have seen an uptick in fraud/scam cases in recent years, and learned investigative and preventative techniques to help our public," police posted to Facebook.

The town’s new Police Department and Emergency Operations Center officially opened in July. Construction began on the new $16.2 million facility in February 2023. Located at 305 Forest Road, across the street from the old police building and the entrance to the Town’s Public Works complex, the facility represents a cooperative effort between local, state, and federal authorities with $4.5 million in state funding and $1 million in federal EOC grant funds.
