From the North Branford Fire Department:
At 02:52 this morning, companies 1,2,3, and 4 were dispatched to the report of a fire at 752 Totoket Rd. Initial arriving units reported heavy fire showing from the A/D corner of the building with unconfirmed reports of occupants in the structure.
Engine 2 stretched a line through the front door and was met with high heat and heavy fire conditions, forcing them back out. 2 additional 1 3/4" lines were placed in service by Engine 11 and Truck 1, one in front and an additional at the rear basement door. Crews made progress on containing the fire when the first floor became compromised and collapsed, forcing crews to exit the structure. When crews exited the structure, the fire autoextended to the attic through a window on the D side of the building, causing the roof to collapse as well.
Subsequently master stream operations were set up with Truck 1 as well as additional hand lines for exterior operations. Mutual aid tankers were originally requested from Durham and Wallingford. Additional units including a water supply engine from Durham and tankers from Madison and Guilford were requested to the scene. East Haven was requested for station coverage.
Water supply operations required 800' of 5 inch LDH to be laid to the corner of Village and totoket where ET-22 could draft and supply the fire scene with water.
The fire was placed under control at 04:31, 3 firefighters were treated for burns, 1 being transported to Yale.
There were no occupants in the structure at the time of the fire. The incident is currently under investigation by the North Branford Fire Marshall's Office and North Branford Police Department.
