1 Killed In Crash On I-91 In North Haven: State Police

A passenger died after being ejected from the vehicle, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man was killed in a crash on I-91 in North Haven on Wednesday, according to police.

The crash happened around 5:40 p.m. near Exit 9 on I-91 North.

Police said the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling in the left lane of four on I-91 North near Exit 9, and the driver of a 2006 Honda Civic was traveling in the left lane of four on I-91 South in the same area.

The Civic left the roadway and entered the grass median and collided with the metal beam guardrail, according to police.

Police said the Civic then entered the northbound median and crashed into the Malibu in the left lane. Both cars came to a final rest in the right shoulder of I-91 North, according to police.

As a result of the crash, police said the front passenger in the Civic was ejected from the vehicle.

The passenger, identified as 32-year-old Guifarro Melvin Palacio of New Haven, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where police said he was pronounced dead.

Both drivers were also taken to the hospital with injuries that police said weren’t life-threatening.
