North Haven Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues

We asked Patch Readers to share their biggest safety concerns in North Haven. Here's what they'd change.

North Haven, CT- Summer’s nearly here and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.

Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.

Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect North Haven residents year round.

We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "Crazy speeding and racing up and down Hartford Turnpike. Ridiculous. Never a cop in the area checking speed."
  • "Heroin and having a methadone clinic in town."
  • "People speeding on our street. Called police to monitor they said they would and never did. We have a lot of children on our street on Virginia Road."
  • "Seeing the drivers fly down William Street! There are so many children who play in this neighborhood! It's actually scary."
  • "People coming in from less affluent neighboring towns, using easy highway access to make quick hit robberies and then flee easily."
  • "Watching ATV riders fly up and down on Route 5 on sunny weekends"
  • "Lack of sidewalks, not enough cross walks, and speeding."
  • "Drugs."
  • "Break-ins."
  • "Speeding on Elm Street. We have lots of kids walking to the high school."
