In 2023, the city issued 3,600 dog licenses: an increase of 700 registrations from 2022. All these licenses must also be renewed for 2024.
According to city officials, all currently registered dog owners will soon receive renewal notices in the mail or via email (please check your junk or spam folders). Residents are responsible for renewing their dog license annually regardless of if they receive a renewal notice.

Owners can renew their dog’s license in person at the town clerk's office, online at norwalkct.gov or through the mail. The town clerk's office will process and mail the license to you, according to city officials.
The town clerk office is located in room 102 at City Hall, 125 East Avenue. If residents plan to mail in the form, they can address it to Norwalk Town Clerk 125 East Ave Norwalk, CT 06856 and should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for its return.
Residents may also drop off their renewal request at the town clerk drop box, located outside the front doors at City Hall. The town clerk’s office will process and mail the license to you, city officials said.
Per Connecticut State Statute 22-349: All dogs must be licensed with the city. Owners of unlicensed dogs could be subject to a $75 fine.
The 2024 license is valid from July 1, 2024, until June 30, 2025. Fees for neutered and spayed dogs are $8, and the fees for unneutered and unspayed dogs are $19.
In July, the fees increase by $1 and each month thereafter, another $1 is added to the original fee. If expired, a current rabies certificate signed by a veterinarian must be presented to the office to comply with state law, according to city officials.
If a dog has not been registered before, a neutering or spaying certificate must also be presented for the first time when registering, if the dog has been altered. The town clerk office is located in room 102, City Hall, 125 East Avenue, according to city officials.
The State of Connecticut has cancelled all rabies clinics held by the towns again this year, city officials said.
