Norwalk High School Students Raise Funds to Raise Awareness
Two high school sophomores plan sexual assault awareness month activities to raise money for Stamford-based crisis center.

Two Norwalk High School sophomores, Rebecca Gaumerklein and Kassidy Wynne, organized a week of activities in April to raise awareness about sexual violence. This school-wide initiative marking Sexual Assault Awareness Month was done in collaboration with The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling & Education (The Center).
The week kicked-off with a school-wide assembly presented by Jessica Buchanan, outreach and prevention coordinator at The Center and Cora Delibertis, hotline volunteer at The Center. Following the assembly, Gaumerklein and Wynne planned daily activities, including distributing teal ribbons, important statistics about sexual violence, and “dollar day,” where the girls collected money to be able to make a donation the Stamford-based sexual assault crisis center.
The girls raised nearly $700 with contributions from students, faculty, staff and a donation from the high school. Gaumerklein and Wynne presented the check to The Center on May 14th at Norwalk High School.
