NORWALK, CT — A person drowning in the Norwalk River was rescued Monday morning by police and other emergency officials, according to police.

In a news release posted to Facebook, police said officers, along with Norwalk fire and Emergency Medical Service crews, were called to the back of 146 East Avenue around 10 a.m. after receiving a report of a person drowning in the river.

Officer James Kassimis and a member of the Norwalk Fire Department both entered the water and swam over to the person, according to police.

A rowing club employee also threw the person a life jacket, which kept the person afloat until emergency personnel reached them, according to police.

The person was brought to shore and taken to Norwalk Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

"This rescue is a great example of the amazing teamwork between Norwalk's first responders, police said on Facebook.
