Veronica O'Connor Burke, 78, Longtime Norwalk Resident

Veronica O'Connor Burke, a longtime Norwalk resident, died peacefully on Wednesday at her home in Trumbull. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund J. Burke, Sr. She is survived by her four sons, and six grandchildren: Patrick Burke of Norwalk; Michael Burke, his wife Lynn Bodetka-Burke and their sons Justin and Colin of Trumbull; Edmund Burke, Jr., his wife Leigh Coventry Burke and their children Anna and Thomas of Fairfax, VA; and Daniel Burke, his wife Tiffany Akre Burke and their children Ryan and Abigail of Baton Rouge, LA. 

After graduating from Norwalk HS in 1953, Veronica attended the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse. She worked for the Department of Health as a visiting nurse, then took time off to raise her children, only to return to nursing at Norwalk Hospital and subsequent positions in residential and home health care.

Veronica considered her four sons her greatest loves and accomplishment of her life. She devoted herself to their well being as best as she was able, and made numerous sacrifices to ensure that they furthered their educations. She attended countless youth sporting events involving her children from the late 1960s through the 1990s. She was a member of St Thomas the Apostle Church in East Norwalk. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:00am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. 

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Whittingham Cancer Center through the Norwalk Hospital Foundation, 34 Maple Street, Norwalk, CT 06856.
