Human Rights Activist and Rabbi to Speak at Three Rivers Community College
Rabbi Arik Aschermann will discuss the work he has done to promote peace in Israel and Palestine.

From Three Rivers College:
Three Rivers Community College is pleased to announce that Rabbi Arik Aschermann, cofounder of Rabbis for Human Rights, will be speaking on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. The program is free and open to the public.
Rabbi Eric Aschermann was invited by Professor Philip Mayer to discuss the work he is doing to promote peace in Israel and Palestine. He attributes his interest in activism on behalf of Palestinians to the rabbinic concept of tikkun olam (lit. "repairing the world"), referring to universal human rights and social justice.

Aschermann actively takes the side of Palestinian citizens and farmers against Israeli police and settlers and has received multiple awards for his activism. In 2009 he was the co-recipient (with Alice Shalvi) of the Leibowitz Prize, presented by the Yesh Gvul. A few years later, in 2011, he was the co-recipient (with Rabbi Ehud Bandel, a co-founder of Rabbis for Human Rights) of the Gandhi Peace Award, "for their nonviolent methods of resolving human rights abuses in Israel and the Occupied Territories.”
This free event is sponsored by Three Rivers’ Student Government Association and is open to the public.
